Overview
The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that the first phase of the Census 2027 – specifically the Houselisting and Housing Census – is already finished in 31 States/UTs. The remaining states will complete this phase by September 2026. A second phase, called Population Enumeration, will be carried out in the Union Territory of Ladakh, the snow‑bound non‑synchronous areas of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from 1 September to 30 September 2026, with a revisional round on 1‑5 October 2026. An optional self‑enumeration window is slated for 17‑31 August 2026.
