II PUC practical exams in Karnataka to be web-streamed to curb malpractice
The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) will implement web streaming and CCTV surveillance for II PUC practical exams to prevent malpractice and ensure fair evaluation. These measures aim to enhance transparency and integrity in the examination process, aligning with broader goals of improving educational standards.
Overview The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) is taking significant steps to prevent malpractice in the II PUC (Second Pre-University Course) practical examinations. Starting with the 2025-26 academic year, practical exams will be conducted under web streaming. Additionally, CCTV cameras will be installed in all examination centers, and practical exam marks will be uploaded online to the KSEAB server directly from the examination centers. Key Developments Implementation of Web Streaming and Online Marks Entry To address shortcomings in the II PUC practical examinations, KSEAB has issued a circular to implement web streaming and online marks entry. This system will be in effect from this year's examinations. Practical Examination Schedule The II PUC practical examinations will be conducted at the district level from January 27 to February 14 . The Deputy Directors of Pre-University ( DDPUs ) of the respective districts will head the examinations. Marks Distribution and Passing Criteria Theory paper: 70 marks Practical exam: 30 marks Minimum marks to pass theory: 21 out of 70 Overall minimum marks required (theory and practical): 30 Overall passing percentage: 33% Addressing Unethical Practices KSEAB has observed that students often score maximum marks in practical exams while scoring less in the theory section. There have also been instances of students performing poorly in practical exams but receiving high marks. These practices raise concerns about the integrity of the evaluation process. Measures to Ensure Fair Evaluation Web Streaming of Exams Following the model used for SSLC and II PUC exams, practical exams will also be conducted through web streaming. Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled cameras will be installed in every examination center, and activities will be monitored directly from the KSEAB headquarters. Any irregularities will be immediately addressed. Online Marks Entry The board has implemented a system for online entry of marks during the evaluation of SSLC and II PUC answer sheets. This system will now be extended to practical exams, with marks being directly entered into the board’s server from the examination center. Mandatory CCTV Installation CCTV installation has been made mandatory in all examination centers to monitor examination processes and prevent unauthorized access. District Practical Examination Committee A District Practical Examination Committee will be formed to conduct the practical examinations. This committee will include a Principal of the respective science subject as the coordinator and two senior science lecturers as members. The committee will prepare the schedule of all practical examination centers in the district and appoint internal and external examiners. Any shortcomings or complaints will result in disciplinary action against the DDPU . UPSC Relevance This news is relevant to GS2 (Governance, Education) and GS3 (Science and Technology) .
