Overview The Ministry of Panchayati Raj spearheaded a nationwide observance of Constitution Day on November 26, 2025 . The initiative aimed to promote constitutional awareness and strengthen citizen engagement, particularly in rural India, through activities at both the Ministry and Panchayat levels. Key Developments National Level Activities Preamble Reading: Shri Vivek Bharadwaj , Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, led senior officers and staff in a collective reading of the Preamble to the Constitution of India in New Delhi . Competitions: Quiz and essay competitions on the theme “Know Your Constitution” were organized for ministry employees. Multilingual Video: A special multilingual video featuring elected representatives from various States and Union Territories reciting the Preamble in their regional languages was unveiled. Grassroots Level Activities Preamble Readings: Gram Panchayats and Rural Local Bodies organized mass readings of the Preamble in local languages and displayed it in Gram Panchayat Bhawans . Thematic Discussions: Thematic discussions, seminars, and quizzes were held. Community Gatherings: Community-led “Our Village, Our Constitution” gatherings involved youth groups, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) , and local organizations. Nationwide Relay: Reports indicated a positive response to the “Constitution Connect – Nationwide Preamble Reading Relay” , connecting Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Rural Local Bodies from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Kutch to the Northeast . Constitutional Literacy: Panchayats undertook Preamble wall paintings, mural artworks, and awareness activities in village public spaces using local and regional languages. Significance These efforts aimed to reinforce the core values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity across the country. The Ministry coordinated with State Panchayati Raj Departments, SIRD&PRs , State and District Panchayat Resource Centres, Panchayat Learning Centres, PESA Mobilizers, Panchayati Raj Associates, and other field networks to ensure preparedness, uniformity, and wide participation.
