AI & Computational Thinking in School Education
The NEP 2020 and the NCF‑SE 2023 have earmarked artificial intelligence (AI) and CT as core subjects for school‑level learning. The move aims to equip students with future‑ready skills and to align India’s education with global technological trends.
Key Developments
- From academic year 2026‑27, CBSE in partnership with NCERT will roll out a dedicated Computational Thinking and AI curriculum for Classes III‑VIII.
- Curriculum for Grades 9‑12 on AI and allied subjects has been finalised, focusing on logical reasoning, algorithm design, data literacy and ethical AI.
- Teacher Handbooks and Facilitator Guides are uploaded on the CBSE portal (cbseacademic.nic.in/skilleducation.html) for implementation support.
- The Ministry of Skill Development launched SOAR, a three‑module, 15‑hour series for students and a 45‑hour module for teachers.
- All CBSE‑affiliated schools must ensure digital infrastructure as per the Board’s affiliation Bye‑Laws.
- Establishment of AI and robotics labs in schools is the responsibility of State/UT governments, as education falls under the Concurrent List.
