The NEP 2020 aims to create a future‑ready talent pool. In line with this vision, the Ministry of Education has launched a series of reforms to upgrade curricula, embed skill‑based credits and strengthen industry‑academia linkages for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, data science and robotics.
Key Developments (2025‑26)
- The AICTE revised its Model Curricula to include AI, Data Science, Machine Learning, Cyber Security, Robotics and Quantum Computing across technical programmes.
- More than 2,100 AICTE‑approved institutions offered AI‑related courses with an intake of over 2.80 lakh students.
- The NCrF was introduced to enable skill‑based credit accumulation.
- The University Grants Commission (UGC) issued guidelines for university‑industry linkages, internships, research internships and Apprenticeship‑Embedded Degree Programmes (AEDP).
- The Ministry’s NATS launched an AI Apprenticeship Programme, benefitting over 75,000 apprentices.
