Overview
The MAA Yojana has started offering outbound portability. In the last six months, about 30,000 patients from Rajasthan have used this facility to get free treatment in other states.
Key Developments
- More than 5,900 claims worth ₹17 crore were lodged for specialised care in Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra and Delhi.
- Procedures covered include heart stents, bypass surgery, cancer surgery, chemotherapy, dialysis and Caesarean deliveries.
- The scheme now links with the PMJAY, allowing beneficiaries to access cashless treatment up to ₹25 lakh at empanelled hospitals.
- Top institutions such as AIIMS Delhi, AIIMS Bhopal, PGI Chandigarh, Medanta, KGMU Lucknow and U.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology, Ahmedabad are now part of the network.
Important Facts
Rajasthan has 1.36 crore eligible families under the MAA Yojana. The scheme offers 2,179 treatment packages, addressing conditions from routine illnesses to serious diseases such as cancer, heart disease, kidney disease and organ transplants.
The integration was announced by Principal Medical and Health Secretary Gayatri Rathore on 21 July 2026.
Exam Relevance
Understanding the MAA Yojana’s portability helps answer questions on:
- State‑center collaboration in health financing (GS2).
- Impact of national schemes like PMJAY on state programmes (GS2 & GS3).
- Challenges of inter‑state health service delivery and financial sustainability (GS3).
- Role of bureaucrats in policy rollout (GS2).
Way Forward
To maximise benefits, the state should:
- Expand the network of empanelled private hospitals to reduce waiting times.
- Strengthen monitoring mechanisms to prevent claim fraud.
- Increase awareness among eligible families about cashless options.
- Periodically review the package list to incorporate emerging medical technologies.
Effective implementation will ensure that every eligible Rajasthani can obtain quality medical care without financial strain, even outside the state.
