Overview The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) , India, initiated its two-week Online Short Term Internship Programme (OSTI) in November 2025 . This program selected 80 university-level students from over 900 applicants across diverse academic backgrounds and regions of the country. The initiative aims to enhance understanding and promote the protection of Human Rights among the youth. Key Developments Inaugural Address: Shri Bharat Lal , Secretary General of NHRC, emphasized the Commission's commitment to reaching remote areas to build human rights awareness through online internships. Curriculum Overview: Smt Saidingpuii Chhakchhuak , NHRC Joint Secretary, outlined the curriculum, featuring 43 sessions by 34 expert speakers , covering topics like international law, rights of manual scavengers, mental health, and juvenile justice. Practical Insights: Interns will participate in a virtual tour of Tihar Jail , a police station, and Asha Kiran shelter home in Delhi to gain practical insights into their operations. UPSC Relevance This initiative is relevant to GS2 (Polity and Governance) and GS3 (Security) .
