Overview

The NITI Aayog organised a two‑day national workshop on Grassroots Innovation at Science City, Ahmedabad (19‑20 May 2026). The event was co‑hosted by the Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST) and the National Innovation Foundation – India (NIF). Participants included innovators, researchers, state officials, incubators and community‑driven actors from across the country.

Gujarat’s Minister of State for Science & Technology, Shri Arjunbhai Devabhai Modhwadia, highlighted the state’s tradition of entrepreneurship and called for stronger institutional support for local innovators.
Senior NITI Aayog advisers and former officials underscored the need to link scientific validation, incubation, technology development and market access to grassroots solutions.
Interactive sessions showcased innovations in earthen products, banana‑fibre items, food‑processing technologies and rural machinery, illustrating frugal, community‑driven problem‑solving.
