Overview
The TDB of the DST, under the Ministry of Science & Technology, has approved financial support for M/s Bioneemtec India Private Limited, Chennai. The project, titled “Manufacturing of Minoxidil, Tranexamic Acid, Dequalinium Chloride, their Intermediates and Drug Liposomes,” aims to commercialise indigenous green chemistry technologies for pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Key Developments
- Establishment of batch and continuous‑flow chemistry units to produce critical API intermediates, APIs and liposomal drug delivery systems.
- Commercialisation of an indigenous, cost‑effective synthesis route for Tranexamic Acid, a drug used in bleeding disorders.
- Domestic scale‑up of Minoxidil (hair‑loss treatment) and Dequalinium Chloride (antimicrobial agent) along with their key intermediates.
- Development of proprietary drug liposome APIs using advanced nanotechnology for potential cancer therapy.
- Initiation of intellectual‑property protection to secure the novel technologies.
Important Facts
The project targets three strategic outcomes: (i) import substitution by reducing reliance on imported pharmaceutical intermediates, (ii) sustainable manufacturing through waste‑minimising green chemistry, and (iii) enhanced healthcare security via indigenous production of critical drugs. The technology combines modern process engineering with nanotechnology, promising higher yields, better product quality, and improved occupational safety.
