The complete subject-wise reading list from Class 6 to 12. NCERTs are the foundation of every UPSC topper's preparation strategy.

NCERTs build the foundation but are not sufficient alone. Pair them with standard reference books and current affairs for complete Prelims preparation.
Class 11 & 12 NCERTs for History, Geography, Polity, and Economy are the most important. Class 6–10 Science NCERTs are essential for the Science & Technology section.
Read the new NCERTs (post-2018 editions) as they have updated content. Old NCERTs for History (by RS Sharma, Bipan Chandra) are useful as supplementary reading.
With dedicated study of 3–4 hours daily, you can complete all essential NCERTs in 3 to 4 months. Make notes as you read for effective revision.
