On May 16, 2026 the Ministry of External Affairs said India does not recognise the award issued on May 15, 2026 by the CoA. The award relates to the IWT. India reiterated that any decision of the CoA is “null and void” and that the treaty remains in abeyance.

IWT के बारे में महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य
The treaty, signed on 19 September 1960 in Karachi by Jawaharlal Nehru and Ayub Khan, contains 12 articles and 8 annexes (A‑H). It allocates:
- Eastern Rivers (Sutlej, Beas, Ravi) – लगभग 33 million acre‑feet (MAF) या कुल प्रवाह का 20 %।
- Western Rivers (Indus, Jhelum, Chenab) – लगभग 135 MAF या कुल प्रवाह का 80 %।
India पश्चिमी नदियों का उपयोग सीमित “non‑consumptive” उद्देश्यों के लिए कर सकता है, जिसमें RoR जलविद्युत परियोजनाएँ शामिल हैं, बशर्ते डिजाइन मानदंडों का पालन हो।
