Kochi-1 card services hit by technical glitch — UPSC Current Affairs | September 13, 2025
Kochi-1 card services hit by technical glitch
On Saturday morning, a technical glitch disrupted Kochi-1 prepaid card services on the Kochi Metro, prompting KMRL to deploy manual ticket counters and maintain discount benefits across several stations. The incident highlights challenges in urban transport governance, digital payment reliability, and crisis management—key themes for UPSC prelims and mains preparation.
A technical glitch affected Kochi-1 pre-paid card services for travelling in the Kochi metro from 6 a.m on Saturday. Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) activated manual ticket issuance counters across stations following the development. Passengers presenting Kochi-1 cards are being provided the same discounts as usual — 20% on single journey tickets and 25% and 33% on trip passes — ensuring that no commuter loses out on their privileges, said a release issued here. At present, one entry and exit gate has been made operational for Kochi-1 card users at Aluva, Muttom, Kalamassery, Pulinchodu, Companypady, Cochin University and Maharaja’s College stations. The technical team is working round-the-clock to extend this provision to all stations, the release added. The metro agency expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and assured that the issue would be resolved on top priority.
