BioE3 Policy Advances Biomanufacturing: New Hubs, Strain Centre & Centre‑State Partnerships (2025‑26)
The Union Cabinet's BioE3 Policy, approved in 2024, is driving a nationwide biomanufacturing push through funded projects, new Biofoundries, Bio‑AI Hubs, and a Strain Resource Centre, while fostering Centre‑State partnerships and public‑private collaboration to reduce import dependence and boost Make‑in‑India.
The Union Cabinet approved the BioE3 Policy in August 2024. Since then, the Department of Biotechnology ( DBT ) and BIRAC have moved from policy‑making to on‑ground implementation across six thematic sectors. Key Developments (2025‑26) Eleven calls for proposals yielded >2,000 applications; 270 projects were funded for discovery‑oriented and scale‑up research. Two calls for Biofoundries and Biomanufacturing Hubs resulted in 17 funded facilities. DBT‑BIRAC jointly invited proposals for Bio‑AI Hubs ; 15 were recommended and an MoU with MeitY secured access to national AI infrastructure.
